Maureen Burke MP raised Babyzone in the House of Commons, highlighting the development gap between children in deprived and affluent areas. She cited figures showing 59% of children in the most deprived areas reach a good level of development by school age, compared with 79% in the least deprived areas.
Burke referenced opening Babyzone's first Scottish hub at Easterhouse Sports Centre, calling for parliamentary time to debate closing the development gap so every child gets a fair start.
The Leader of the House welcomed the intervention, describing charities like Babyzone as delivering genuine impact in local communities, and encouraged Burke to apply for a formal debate so ministers could set out further government action.
Three weeks after opening, the Easterhouse hub has welcomed 395 families and 503 children, including 230 babies and 273 toddlers — early evidence of the scale of local need.
Babyzone provides free-to-access, community-based support helping close the early development gap between richer and poorer areas.
